Point Reyes National Seashore

When Nature is a true artist and you find a piece of Heaven on Earth! 🙂

Have you ever imagined how heaven looks like? Point Reyes National Seashore is pretty much like that!

If you ask me, I picture green meadows as far as the eyes can see, free herds of cattle, no houses nor shops, blue clear sky, fresh ocean breezes and just the noise of waves…what a dream!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found all I’ve ever imagined in one place: Point Reyes National Seashore!;-)

It’s unbelievable, it’s absolutely breathtaking and a total full experience with Nature. It’s all about endless coastal wilds, far horizons and close-up wonders. The park is huge still is very quiet and allows you to explore it at your own pace: by car, hiking some trails or just relax at the different beaches.

This portion of California is one of the most biologically rich but threatened areas too as it lies directly on the San Andreas Fault. Before entering the park I suggest to stop by the Bear Valley Visitor Centre, grab a map and spend 10 minutes to explore a super easy but yet very informative trail about earthquakes.

 MUST-SEE:

1. Cypress Tree Tunnel

   A row of giant cypress trees that form a tunnel, you can drive through it and at the end of the tunnel you will find the historic RCA/Marconi station.

2. Point Reyes Lighthouse

As Point Reyes is the windiest place on the Pacific Coast and the second foggiest place in North American, a lightouse was build in 1870 on the western-most point area of the park itself to warn mariners of possible danger due to the fog and the gales.

300 steps divide you from the lighthouse, once you reach it you can enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the observation platform is an ideal perch too for spotting migrating whales in winter.

Fun fact: the lighthouse was used as a location for the 1980 John Carpenter film “The Fog”.

TIPS:

• The park is free!!! 🙂
• Pack your lunch and have a pic nic wherever you like the most!
• Bring a jacket or a hoodie!!!Poin Reyes is the windiest place on the Pacific Coast!It’s chilly here!
• Check the weather, if wind speed exceeds 40 mph they close the stairs to the lighthouse! 🙁

•  Stock up on gasoline before entering the park, as said before there aren’t any shops or gas station!
• To find the Cypress Tunnel: it’s located on your way to the Lighthouse, look on the right, there will be signs pointing at it.

This park is a true gem, it’s really a piece of heaven on Earth! I reccomend it to everyone, especially to people who come to San Francisco on holiday; I know it’s not a place you usually plan to visit (I came on holiday here before and never thought to pay it a visit) especially when you are in the area for few days, but I highly suggest you to put it on your buckest list!
