We didn’t have much time as our main reason to be in the desert was Coachella, so I picked the ones I personally loved the most:
- Lover’s Rainbow
Historically, rainbows have symbolized rain and fertility. Located in the desert, Lover’s Rainbow represents a way to re-insert hope into the land and to throw light onto the current immigration policies. After all, according to the artist, going in search of the rainbow in the desert highlights its symbolic power to re-establish hope, love and inclusiveness.
- Specter
I loved this fluorescent orange/redish monolith in the middle of the desert with the constrast of the snowcapped mountains in the background.
- Ghost Palm
20 feet tall (6m), Ghost Palm is made of steel, plastic and glass. It stands in midldle of the desert and it’s a meticulous reconstruction of the largest palm species native to California. The amazing thing is that it looks almost invisible due to its transparent structure and it becomes visible only when it catches reflections of the sun.
A very innovative way to appreciate art, the desert offers a lot more than just Coachella, so don’t miss it while it’s still on!!!
